St. John’s basketball shines in classroom as shown in All-Academic Team
The St. John’s basketball program is getting it done off the floor and in the classroom as the program has a record number of selections to the Big East All-Academic Team.
As the 2019-20 basketball season is in the books, so is the academic calendar year and members of the St. John’s athletic programs starred both on and off the field/court.
Starting first with the basketball program, the men’s team had a record nine players named to the Big East All-Academic Team with David Caraher, Justin Cole, Rasheem Dunn, Marcellus Earlington, Mustapha Heron, Thomas O’Connell, Jalean Rosemond, Damien Sears, and Greg Williams Jr making the list.

The women’s basketball program also placed four players on the All-Academic team in Sophia Nolan, Emma Nolan, Cecilia Holmberg, and Qadashah Hoppie.
In the scope of the entire athletic program, St. John’s had 230 student-athletes named to the Big East All-Academic Team as the Red Storm’s men’s lacrosse team led the school with 35 players named to the team with the women’s Track & Field and cross country, and baseball teams finished right behind the lacrosse team with 32 players each on the conference’s list.
There were 26 student-athletes on the women’s soccer team, 24 on the men’s soccer team, 20 softball players, and 15 women’s volleyball team named to the Big East All-Academic Team as well.

As previously stated the men’s basketball had nine players on the list, the same amount of players as the men’s and women’s tennis teams and men’s golf team.
There were seven athletes recognized on the women’s golf team as the women’s basketball team had the least amount of players named for the honor with four.

In order to quality for the Big East All-Academic Team a player must have earned a grade point average of 3.00 for the academic year, and completed a minimum of two consecutive semesters with a total of 18 credits.
