Ex-St. John’s basketball target Brandon Weston commits to Big East rival

Former St. John’s basketball target Brandon Weston announced he is committing to Big East rival Seton Hall.

The Big East Conference continues its spree on the recruiting trail as Kevin Willard and the Seton Hall Pirates have brought in yet another player in its Class of 2021 recruiting crop.

On Sunday evening four-star prospect Brandon Weston committed to Willard and Pirates over Western Illinois, Michigan, Pittsburgh, Illinois, and Wake Forest.

Weston previously announced his Top-6 finalists back on August 17 and intended to announce his college decision on September 1 but tweeted early Sunday morning that he woke up and made his decision, and that he would announce it later in the day.

St. John’s head coach Mike Anderson offered Brandon Weston back in July 2019 and the original Brooklyn, New York native visited the campus and facilities in late August 2019.

Weston cut the Red Storm along with Arizona State, Massachusetts, Nebraska, St. Louis, and Alabama-Birmingham, among others from his final six programs.

Brandon Weston spent the last two season in Chicago playing for Lake Forest Academy and Morgan Park but will head out to Arizona and play his senior season at Hillcrest Prep.

The 247 Sports Composite Rankings places the 6-foot-5 small forward as the No. 63 recruit in the Class of 2021, No. 11 small forward, and No. 4 player in the state of Illinois.

Based on recruiting rankings, Weston would be the No. 2 player in the state of New York and No. 3 recruit in Arizona.

As St. John’s recently landed its first commitment in the Class of 2021 with Drissa Traore but its fellow conference opponents have continued to surge on as the Johnnies trail behind with recruits.

Eight of the eleven team in the Big East are in the Top-40 of the Class of 2021 247 Sports Recruiting rankings with (in order) Villanova, Connecticut, Seton Hall, DePaul. Georgetown, Butler, Xavier, and Marquette.
