Former St. John’s basketball standout Amir Garrett surrendered a walk-off hit against the Atlanta Braves.
If you are a pitching junkie in baseball, well then I hope you are locked into Game 1 of the National League Wild Card Series between the Atlanta Braves and Cincinnati Reds.
Starting pitchers Max Fried and Trevor Bauer put on a clinic as the two stars went seven and seven and two-third innings, respectively of shutout baseball.

The bullpens of both teams picked up right where their starters left off as the game entered the 13th inning still scoreless, a record for any Major League Baseball Postseason game.
However, with runners on first and third and presumptive National League Most Valuable Player Freddie Freeman coming up to the plate, Reds manager David Bell made the call to the bullpen for Amir Garrett to face the left-hander power bat.
An unorthodox shift, which placed right fielder Nick Castellanos at third base, tried to get Freeman to bounce into an inning-ending double play but on an 1-2 slider, the All-Star first baseman was able to loop the ball into center field as the Braves won on a walk-off, 1-0.

Garrett, the former fan favorite on the St. John’s basketball team, only threw four pitches in his first ever playoff appearance and the lone run of the game and loss was credited to Archie Bradley, who started the 13th inning.
Against the top of the Braves lineup, Bradley allowed back-to-back singles followed by a fielders choice that recorded the only out of the frame.
Facing elimination tomorrow, expect David Bell to be looking for any arm in his bullpen to try and get some outs, including Garrett, as the Reds look to keep its season alive against the National League East Division Champions.
