The Big East Conference provided an update to the St. John’s basketball schedule.

Despite playing nine games this season, the St. John’s basketball program has been no stranger to schedule adjustments and more became known on Friday night.

The biggest news was that the Red Storm’s (5-4, 0-3 Big East) matchup with No. 9 Villanova (6-1, 1-0 Big East) was postponed on December 30.

Both programs decided to postpone the game in order to give its players more of a chance to spend time at home for the holidays and more time to quarantine and practice following their return to campus.

St. John’s is slated to play Georgetown on Sunday, December 20 and then not scheduled to play until January 2 against DePaul, who has not played this season because of coronavirus shutdowns.

“We just thought our players needed a break. Their well-being is our top priority. We appreciate that St. John’s is in agreement with us on this in wanting the same for their players,” Villanova head coach Jay Wright said in a statement.

The Wildcats have two games remaining before Christmas, December 19 against St. Joseph’s and December 23 against Marquette. Following its game against the Golden Eagles, Villanova does not play again until January 2 against Xavier.

No date has been announced for the game, although the Big East has scheduled two weeks in February for all make-up games in the 2020-21 season.
