St. John’s basketball dropped a heartbreaker in overtime against Georgetown.

After wins in two of its last three games, the St. John’s basketball team was looking to keep things rolling at home against the Georgetown Hoyas (2-13, 2-13 Big East).

The Red Storm (7-13, 4-11 Big East) previously defeated Georgetown in late January, 70-53, snapping a five-game losing streak.

However, the Johnnies got off to a slow start, trailing by as many as ten points in the second quarter but St. John’s would slowly chip away thanks to a career-best performance from Unique Drake with 22 points, four rebounds, and four assists.

St. John’s led by as many as three in the fourth quarter, it’s largest lead of the game, but thanks to a layup by Kadaja Bailey in the final minute, the Red Storm forced overtime at 53-53.

In the extra session, the Johnnies took a 58-56 lead with 2:11 to play but the Red Storm saw the Hoyas score the final six points of the game, winning 62-58.

“I thought we fought back and had an opportunity at the end of the game with the ball in our hands and didn’t get the best shot that we were looking for,” head coach Joe Tartamella said.

“I thought that our execution towards the end which we had worked on didn’t come through today and we have done a better job in those situations in other games.”

Forward Raven Farley had one of her best outings of the season with 15 points and seven rebounds while Leilani Correa struggled with just six points on 2-of-11 shooting but she did add eight rebounds, three assists, and four steals.

The Johnnies did have 18 assists on 24 made field goals but only shot 36.4-percent from the field, 27.3-percent from three-point range, and 44.4-percent from the free throw line.
