St. John’s soccer earns postseason berth in draw to Marquette.

On Sunday, the St. John’s soccer team hosted Marquette on Senior Day.

The Red Storm honored 11 seniors as part of its final home game of the season including Isabelle Aviza, Grace Bernardi, Brooke Boyd, Melina Couzis, Molly Feighan, Jessica Garziano, Kayla Mesaros, Michelle Money, Gina Muzi, Angelina Scoma, and Katherine Turner.

St. John’s would open up the scoring through Nicole Gordon in the 22nd minute in a half that featured just four combined shots with the opening 45 minutes very much being a battle of each squad’s midfield trying to establish a rhythm of play.

Gordon’s goal was her fourth of the season which leads the team, breaking a tie with Garziano and Ava Collins.

The Golden Eagles would come out of the second half and control the proceedings in a much more eventful second half.

Marquette fired off ten shots in the second half but had just three shots on goal in the game while the Red Storm totaled six shots with three on goal.

Marquette was rewarded for controlling the possession as they scored through Elsi Twombly for her fourth of the season in the 85th minute to preserve a point.
