The St. John’s basketball schedule for the 2024-25 season is getting more daunting.

Rick Pitino is delivering on the promises he made during his introductory press conference for the St. John’s basketball program.

No more easy schedules.

After being handcuffed with a vast majority of the Red Storm’s slate this season, the Johnnies still found opponents like Michigan, Boston College, and West Virginia on its schedule with a trip to South Carolina to play in the Charleston Classic, with a very solid field, in its multi-team event (MTE).

The event begins on Thursday against North Texas while a game against either LSU or Dayton will be on Friday and a potential matchup with No. 6 Houston could loom on Sunday.

However, next season’s MTE for St. John’s will even be more challenging.

The Red Storm will compete in the Baha Mar Bahamas Hoops Championship and the field has been finalized, according to reports, with Baylor, Tennessee, and Virginia.

Matchups have not been set but the Johnnies will play two of those programs next November.

St. John’s basketball could have most difficult schedule in the country

Rick Pitino has also mentioned the possibility of St. John’s playing Duke at Arthur Ashe Stadium, the home of the United States Open Tennis Tournament, and Alabama at Madison Square Garden next season.

A game against a Big 12 opponent is also likely for the Johnnies next year in the Big East vs. Big 12 Battle, and there have been talks about the Big East trying to create another series with a conference as this year is the likely end of the Gavitt Games, which featured the Big East against the Big 10.

However, the idea of that potential series being added to next season’s schedule is very premature at this point.

St. John’s will also still be playing its 20 league games next season.
