The St. John’s basketball team is heading back to Madison Square Garden for one more time during the regular season after the program announced on Wednesday that it has changed the venue for its March 1 matchup against Seton Hall.
It was supposed to be the final game of the year inside Carnesecca Arena but due to ticket demand the No. 9 Johnnies (21-4, 12-2 Big East) needed a bigger arena.
The game time (2:15 p.m. ET, CBS) remains the same.
St. John’s saw its 10-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday night with a 73-71 loss on the road against Villanova. The Red Storm took a 71-70 lead with 27.9 seconds remaining, but Wildcat guard Tyler Perkins hit the game winning 3-pointer with 9.0 seconds left.
The Red Storm walloped rival Seton Hall in its first meeting of the season, winning 79-51 as the crowd booed St. John’s guard Kadary Richmond making his return to the Prudential Center.
Shaheen Holloway has seen his team (6-18, 1-12 Big East) struggle mightily this season, posting the worst record in the conference and now seeing injuries start to pile up.
It will mark the first time St. John’s hosted Seton Hall inside Madison Square Garden since the 2021-22 season after its last two matchups have come inside Carnesecca Arena and UBS Arena.
The Red Storm have not defeated the Pirates during a regular season game at The Garden since the 2018-19 season.
St. John’s will now play 12 games at MSG this year and hosts No. 24 Creighton (18-7, 11-3 Big East) on Sunday afternoon (3:00 p.m., FS1) with first place in the Big East regular season standings on the line.
The Johnnies also welcome UConn (17-7, 9-4 Big East) to The World’s Most Famous Arena on Sunday, February 23 (12:00 p.m. ET, FOX).
The program said in a statement that season ticket holders will be provided with their regular ticket location for games at MSG. All fans who bought single-game tickets to the game at Carnesecca Arena will be placed in a similar section at Madison Square Garden with no additional cost while those who have ticket packages only including Garden games will have to purchase additional tickets.
