Brady Dunlap, one of the biggest fan favorites of the St. John’s basketball program, has played his last game for the Johnnies.
The California native made the decision to enter the transfer portal on Monday after an injury riddled season only allowed him to play ten games this year. He underwent surgery on a torn UCL in his thumb in December and surgery in early February on a core muscle injury, which ultimately cost him the remainder of the year.
He averaged 5.7 points per game on 46.5-percnet shooting this season after showing some promise in his freshman campaign. He and Simeon Wilcher were the only two high school recruits for Rick Pitino entering his first season with the Red Storm.
“Brady Dunlap is an awesome young man and all of us wish him nothing but success and happiness,” Pitino posted on X shortly after the news was made public.
The Hall of Famer was hoping he would continue to coach the 6-foot-7 wing after he invited him to return to the team during his exit interview, but Dunlap ultimately decided to leave the school after further consideration.
“Kick ass Brady!” Pitino concluded.

Dunlap, after receiving a medical redshirt this season, will still have three years of eligibility remaining. He expected to start light workouts in mid-March before ramping back up to full basketball activities by the summer.
He was originally committed to Notre Dame before a coaching change allowed him to reopen his recruitment and eventually land with St. John’s.
Despite all his injury struggles this season, he remained a constant presence on the team and became a viral sensation on the St. John’s bench during the postseason in its run to a Big East Tournament Championship and NCAA Tournament berth.
St. John’s has also seen Big East Player of the Year RJ Luis declare for the NBA Draft while also enter the transfer portal, ending his time in Queens, while the Red Storm have added Arizona State guard Joson Sanon and Providence forward Bryce Hopkins within the last week.
