The St. John’s basketball schedule is officially set as the Red Storm and Iona Gaels have set a date for its second straight matchup at Madison Square Garden.
The two New York schools will meet on Sunday, November 8 with a 12:00 p.m. ET tipoff. St. John’s won last year’s matchup, 91-64, which was the beginning of a stretch in which the Johnnies won 26-of-30 games following a 4-3 start to the season.
The matchup will be St. John’s first regular season game at Madison Square Garden after playing two exhibitions at the World’s Most Famous Arena against Rutgers (October 18) and Texas (October 25).
St. John’s begins its season inside Carnesecca Arena against Monmouth before its matchup with the Gaels. The Red Storm will play three consecutive mid-major programs to begin its season, hosting Colegate in Queens on November 11, prior to renewing its rivalry with Syracuse at Madison Square Garden on November 15.
Rick Pitino’s team will have a final tune up against Siena on November 18 before heading to Las Vegas for the Players Era 16. The Johnnies will open its trip against Oregon on November 24 and will play either Louisville or Texas Tech on November 26.
St. John’s will play a third game at the Players Era Festival on November 27 and will only play a fourth game if they win the opening three games in the championship. The Johnnies are slated to play Columbia in Queens on December 1, but that game will not be played if the Red Storm reach the title game in Vegas.
Then, comes one of the biggest tests of the non-conference slate against Arizona on December 5 at The Garden. St. John’s will play Wagner on December 8 before wrapping up its early season slate against Alabama in Birmingham.
The Big East schedule begins on December 19 against DePaul, which has already been announced.
