Am I copping out on our first Big East program as a beer thing by saying the Butler Bulldogs are the equivalent to any IPA? Yes, yes I am. Still, Butler has been a steady, near great program for a slew of years now. If we were to be even more truthful, the new member of the Big East happens to come to the league as one of the better programs of any in it over the last few years. I mean, how many other programs in the conference have been to the Final Four recently? Okay, bad argument.
Regardless, Butler is any IPA for the same reason drinking an IPA is deemed hip, but isn’t your go-to beer for parties. It feels like a fad. That is definitely not fair to the Bulldogs as they are going to be around longer than telling your friend about the cool new IPA you drank, but Butler still feels like an anomaly.
With the program now being where it belongs — in a major conference — this is likely to change. Butler can very well end up being a high quality foreign beer or something. However, being new to the new Big East makes them an IPA — for now
