Former St. John’s basketball commit potentially turns on former assistant
Cam Mack, a former St. John’s basketball commit, seems to be turning on former Red Storm, now Nebraska assistant coach Matt Abdelmassih, who flipped the prospect from Queens to Lincoln.
There is some drama in Johnnie land and it doesn’t involve any current member of the Red Storm.
Former St. John’s commit Cam Mack decommitted from the program once it parted ways with former head coach Chris Mullin.

The Austin, Texas native reopened his commitment and landed at Nebraska with former St. John’s assistant under Mullin, Matt Abdelmassih.
A St. John’s graduate in his own right, fans were not happy when Abdelmassih tried to lure all of the St. John’s commits and recruits to Nebraska where he joined Fred Hoiberg‘s staff.
Abdelmassih previously worked with Hoiberg when he was the head coach at Iowa State, before leaving the college ranks for the Chicago Bulls.
However, Abdelmassih was able to bring Mack with him to the Cornhuskers but things didn’t go so smooth for the team or the sophomore last season and Mack seems to be putting the blame for his shortcoming on his coach.
Cam Mack’s tweets have since been deleted.
Nebraska was one of the worst teams among the major conferences with a 7-25 record (2-18 Big Ten) and Mack was disciplined five times this season by the coaching staff after averaging 12.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 6.4 assists per game.

Hoiberg suspended Mack indefinitely from the program on March 7, prior to the final game of the regular season and the Big Ten Tournament.
Mack was also suspended for Nebraska’s March 5 game against Michigan for a violation of team rules.
The future of the point guard was unknown at the school after his latest suspension so he entered the 2020 NBA Draft and immediately after withdrawing his name announce his intentions to transfer from the program.

With the culture and players Mike Anderson has built in just one season at St. John’s, it looks like the Red Storm dodged a bullet with not having Cam Mack in its program and should be thrilled at what’s building in Queens.
