The St. John’s basketball program is officially out of the race for a prime Class of 2021 recruit.

It was a strange and odd recruitment from of Class of 2021 forward Trey Patterson from the St. John’s Red Storm.

The Johnnies had been very connected to the Rutgers Prep star when the program was under head coach Chris Mullin as the 6-foot-8 standout attended the Red Storm Tipoff and wrote in his own words that he enjoyed it than the Midnight Madness he visited at Rutgers University.

However, St. John’s never extended an offer to Patterson under Mullin and while the team remained interested in the recruit once Mike Anderson took over at St. John’s, the school never emerged as a serious threat for Trey Patterson.

The Red Storm only offered a scholarship to the four-star recruit on May 14.

The Somerset, New Jersey native released his Top-10 schools via his Twitter page which included Memphis, Florida, Connecticut, Villanova, Maryland, Indiana, Tennessee, Rutgers, Auburn, and Arkansas.

Patterson is ranked as the No. 35 player in the country, according to the 247 Sports Composite Rankings, in addition to being the No. 8 small forward in the class and the No. 2 prospect in the state of New Jersey.

The 247 Sports Crystal Ball Prediction has Trey Patterson landing in the Big East at Villanova as the Wildcats will most likely see a mass exodus following the 2020-21 season because of graduations and players leaving school early for the NBA.

St. John’s currently does not have any commits in the Class of 2021 but Mike Anderson and his staff have been working very hard on the recruiting trail although the team will only lose two players on paper after next season, Rasheem Dunn and LJ Figueroa, pending Figueroa removes his name from the 2020 NBA Draft and returns to school for his senior season.
