The St. John’s basketball program is making another push for a four-star recruit that will be making his decision soon.

St. John’s entered the recruitment process for Class of 2021 four-star prospect Ike Cornish late in the game but the Red Storm had some momentum, immediately making the Top-8 for the recruit.

Cornish then trimmed his list down to six programs, once again including the Johnnies along with Maryland, Xavier, Rutgers, Virginia Tech, and Georgetown.

Since then, these programs have been competing against each other for the services of the Legacy Charter High School star and both St. John’s and Rutgers have recently completed virtual visits with the Baltimore native.

Mike Anderson only offered a scholarship to the shooting guard on April 10 as the Johnnies survived that cutdown on May 16.

Ike Cornish is ranked as the No. 78 player in the Class of 2021, No. 16 shooting guard in the class, and No. 3 player in the state of South Carolina, according to the 247 Sports Composite Rankings.

Corey Evans, a National Recruiting Analyst at Rivals, shared the same sentiments of the 247 Sports Crystal Ball that Cornish will end up in near his hometown Baltimore with the Maryland Terrapins, but Evans thinks that if there is one team that could land the recruit outside of Mark Turgeon’s program it’s the Xavier Musketeers.

St. John’s certainly had some momentum entering the race of Ike Cornish and being included in his Top-6 schools, but the 6-foot-6 guard seems to be a long shot in Queens despite the best efforts of Anderson and the coaching staff.

Mike Anderson does not yet have a commitment from a member of the Class of 2021 but the work he and his staff continues to put on the recruiting trail shouldn’t go unnoticed by a prospect for much longer.
