The TBT bracket was announced and another former St. John’s basketball player will be taking part ini the highly anticipated event.

Basketball is getting closer to returning as The Basketball Tournament inches closer and the bracket was reveled for the 24-team single elimination competition.

Three former Johnnies, DJ Kennedy, Justin Burrell, and Paris Horne will be taking the floor for Overseas Elite, the No. 2 seed in the TBT.

More from Storm The Paint

Overseas Elite suffered its first loss in The Basketball Tournament history in last year’s Championship Game to Carmen’s Crew, a team comprised of alumni from the Ohio State Buckeyes, who are the No. 1 seed this year.

The four-time champions will take the floor for the first time between July 6-9 and will face the winner of the First Round matchup between the No. 15 seed Armored Athlete and No. 18 seed Power of the Paw, a Clemson Tigers alumni team.

However, it was announced that former St. John’s forward Bashir Ahmed would be joining the TBT in 2020 by joining the team Jimmy V.

Unfortunately, Jimmy V is a ‘Standby’ team, meaning that it will only compete in the 24-team tournament if another team is unable to play for any unforeseen circumstance, which makes those team much more important this year given the coronavirus pandemic.

After spending two season at Hutchinson Community College, Ahmed joined St. John’s for his junior and seniors seasons, appearing in 66 total games, starting 65, and averaged 12.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game while shooting 40.1 percent from the field and 34.9 percent from 3-point range.

The Bronx native went undrafted in the 2018 NBA Draft but has since began a professional career overseas, most recently playing for KK Zadar, a professional basketball team that plays in the ABA League and the Croatian League.
