The St. John’s basketball program has reached out to Class of 2022 shooting guard Elijah Perkins.

On Thursday, it was reported that the St. John’s basketball program has recently reached out to Class of 2022 shooting guard Elijah Perkins.

The news of the program’s interest in Perkins was reported by Recruits Zone.

The 6-foot-4 guard just finished up his sophmore season at the Ranney High School in Tinton Falls, New Jersey where he averaged 12.7 points and 1.6 rebounds per game in 22 games this past year.

The Eatontown, New Jersey native is ranked as a three-star prospect and ranked as the No. 32 shooting guard and the No. 9 player in the state of New Jersey for the Class of 2022, according to 247 Sports.

Perkins currently holds offers from Bryant, Nebraska, Stony Brook, Robert Morris, La Salle and Saint Peter’s.

Sienna and Hostra among others have also expressed their interest in the guard.

While the Red Storm have been in contact with 2022 recruits throughout the summer, the program has not yet extended an offer to Elijah Perkins.

The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has made it difficult to scout and evaluate players with tons of AAU games and other recruiting events being canceled.

The Red Storm will only have a maximum of two scholarship spots open for the 2021 class, following the commitment of Drissa Traore on August 3, unless the currently open spot is filled which appears unlikely at this point.

However, the 2022 class will be very important as the Red Storm will lose many of their core players in Greg Williams Jr, Marcellus Earlington, Josh Roberts, and David Caraher along with Vince Cole and Isiah Moore.

The St. John’s basketball program currently does not have a commitment in the Class of 2022, but has its sights set on Kyle Cuffe Jr. and Nick Smith as its top options in the class.

Elijah Perkins may also be a solid option for the backcourt, if the program offers him, for a roster that will have a lot of turnover in what will be a critical recruiting class for Mike Anderson.
