St. John’s basketball program remains connected with Wesley Cardet Jr.
The St. John’s basketball program remains connected to Class of 2021 prospect Wesley Cardet Jr.
Perhaps many St. John’s fans thought that there was no hope for the remainder of the Class of 2021 recruiting class, but Mike Anderson has been in contact with an underrated prospect in the class.
Zach Smart reported on Sunday that the Red Storm have been one of several programs to reach out to Wesley Cardet Jr. following his 34 point outburst against Florida Xclusive.

Along with the Johnnies, Smart also said that Cardet Jr. told him Illinois, Iona, Kansas State, Alabama, and Iowa State are the schools that have been reaching out to him the most in recent days.
Wesley Cardet Jr. also holds offers from DePaul, Howard, Florida A&M, Rutgers, Maryland, Clemson, Florida Gulf Coast, Miami (FL), Southern California, South Florida, Florida International, Dayton, and Florida.
The West Oaks Academy star is listed as a 6-foot-6, 175 pound combo guard, ranked as a three-star prospect and the No. 102 player in the Class of 2021, No. 5 combo guard, and No. 12 player in the state of Florida, according to the 247 Sports Composite Rankings.
Mike Anderson and St. John’s officially extended an offer to Cardet Jr. on July 6.

It will certainly be tough for the Red Storm to pry the guard away from the south as programs such as Alabama, Florida, and Miami (FL) have been recruiting the prospect since his early high school days, but perhaps Cardet Jr. not mentioning his home state schools specifically could mean that their interest has tapered off slightly.
The Johnnies only have one commitment from a player in the Class of 2021, 6-foot-7 forward and Harlem, New York native Drissa Traore, and are also targeting top recruit Franck Kepnang in the senior class.
