St. John’s basketball suffered back-to-back losses following a Delaware offensive explosion.

Following its first loss of the season at home against Villanova, the St. John’s basketball program added another game and tried to bounce back against Delaware.

The Red Storm (2-2, 0-1 Big East) were unable to corral the explosive offense of the Blue Hens (3-0) as the Johnnies fell, 93-88.

St. John’s saw a career day from sophomore Leilani Correa as she dropped a career-high 35 points and senior Qadashah Hoppie made her season debut, adding 23 points in the losing cause.

However, the Red Storm were unable to defend Jasmine Dickie following her 31-point, nine rebound effort.

In a back-and-fort affair throughout the game, controlled by Delaware, St. John’s rallied to take a 66-65 lead with 7:14 remaining in the fourth quarter to immediately surrender a 12-0 run.

Despite its now 11-point deficit, St. John’s rallied to get within three points, 88-85, and two missed free throws from Ty Battle set the Red Storm up with the chance to potentially tie the game but Delaware secured the offensive rebound on the missed free throw.

Brynn Wade then split a pair at the charity stripe to push the Blue Hens’ lead to four points but a layup from Correa brought St. John’s to within two points.

Immediately after the layup, Delaware easily broke the St. John’s pressure and Dickie raced down the floor for a layup and the foul, giving her team a five-point lead, the margin the Blue Hens would go on to win by.

St. John’s basketball will remain on the road

After dropping the first game of its four game road trip, the Red Storm will now travel to Massachusetts to face UMass on Sunday afternoon, December 13, at 2:00pm EST.
