St. John’s basketball: Big East foes making push for extremely local recruit

A Big East foes is making a push for an extremely local recruit that the St. John’s basketball team has had its eye on.

The DePaul Blue Demons are making a push for a New York native and a St. John’s basketball prospect as Dave Leitao and his staff recently completed a virtual meeting with Sean Durugordon on Sunday evening.

Durugordon, a 6-foot-7 small forward in the Class of 2021, originally is from Queens, New York and has starred at Putnam Science Academy High School.

Verbal Commits and Rivals ranks Durugordon as a three-star recruit and 247 Sports lists that the forward has offers from DePaul, Hofstra, Massachusetts, Penn State, San Francisco, and South Florida, among others.

While St. John’s has not extend an offer to Durugordon as of yet, the prospect told Jake Weingarten of Stock Risers that he has been a lot of contact with Georgia, Connecticut, Rutgers, DePaul, Clemson, Penn State, Creighton, East Carolina, Old Dominion, Tulsa, USF, Hofstra, Vermont, San Francisco, VCU, and St. John’s.

Durugordon also said that new schools that have reached out to him include Texas Tech, Xavier, Temple, Missouri, Texas A&M, Providence, and Iona.

Weingarten also reported that Durugordon competed a virtual meeting with Xavier last week as well as a virtual tour of Old Dominion.

St. John’s does not have a commitment yet from a player in the Class of 2021 but Mike Anderson and his staff have been pressing hard on the recruiting trail, trying to keep the top players from the New York City area home and land them in Queens also dabbling in some of the top prospects in the class.

The Red Storm bring in five players in the Class of 2020, two high school prospect, two JUCO players, and one graduate transfer which is the No. 77 class in the country and No. 6 in the Big East.
