The St. John’s basketball program is continuing to strengthen its ties with New York City recruits who could be future Johnnies.

Heading into the 2020-21 season, the St. John’s Red Storm already have two players from the New York City powerhouse high school Our Savior Lutheran, incoming freshmen guards Posh Alexander and Dylan Wusu.

However, that number could grow in the coming years as head coach Mike Anderson continues to build strong relationships with the high school in the Bronx.

Most recently the program has continued to reach out to Jaquan Sanders, a shooting guard in the Class of 2022, who is quickly rising in the class and racking up many interests not only locally but nationally.

Sanders recently told Tre Jackson of Knowledge Hoops that Creighton, Michigan, Illinois, St. John’s, Seton Hall, Hofstra, La Salle, Providence, Cincinnati, and Manhattan have contacted him recently although he seems to    be in no rush to make a decision.

The 6-foot-3 guard holds offers from Massachusetts, St. John’s, Hofstra, Creighton, Bryant, Illinois, Xavier, and Manhattan.

St. John’s offered Sanders back on July 1 of 2019 as he also plays for the NY Lightning on the AAU Circuit.

Jaquan Sanders is ranked as a three-star recruit and the No. 152 player in the Class of 2022 as well as the No. 26 shooting guard and No. 2 player in the state of New York, according to the 247 Sports Composite Rankings.

Despite only having one commitment in the Class of 2021, the Red Storm are eying a massive haul in the Class of 2022 and Sanders could be a major part in that recruiting class.

Mike Anderson has yet to land a program changing recruit in his short time as the head coach of the Red Storm but a slew of players in the junior class could change the perspective on the recruiting philosophy and results of the Johnnies.
